Children’s Capital of Culture – You’re Not from New York City, You’re from Rov’Rum

In 2025 Rotherham becomes the world’s first Children’s Capital of Culture. Responding to this pivotal moment in our history, 25 community-based Heritage Producers aged 16-25 will: • develop the skills, confidence and networks to enable the preservation of Rotherham’s past and future heritage, through forging new connections and developing communities’ sense of identity, belonging and pride of place • utilise their generation’s ‘born-digital’ skills to build an “Archive of Memories”, focusing on contemporary collecting and digital preservation to modernise approaches to archival engagement • work alongside Rotherham Archives to capture and preserve our shared history as it unfolds, and reach across the generations to connect this with our borough’s traditional community and social heritage • collaborate with a renowned Guest Director to deliver a major new creative commission that draws inspiration from the “Archive of Memories” to interrogate who we are, where we come from and where might go next
