Coach House and Stables in Ruskin Park

In Ruskin Park, we will restore the Coach House and Stables, and rescue these Regency era buildings from imminent dereliction. The restored, refurbished buildings will provide a historic centre-piece to Ruskin Park, and will include facilities for park users, a new accessible toilet, and new heritage interpretation celebrating the park's heritage and unheard voices. The building will be let to an accessible business, probably for a cafe or restaurant, ensuring long term economic sustainability, and ensuring its future maintenance and public access to the toilets. We will facilitate a project commissioning twelve creative young adults from under-represented groups, to research explore the stables and people working in them, Ruskin, Mendelssohn and other local creatives, and the history of the Sexby-designed park, and produce and record stories, soundscapes or journalism based on this heritage. We will promote these soundscapes for schools and other groups.
