Culture And Memory
Coastal Community Matters
Through Coastal Community Matters we aim to bring to life the memories of people living in a broad range of coastal communities; locations where Time and Tide Bells (T&TB), our ‘parent’ project, are situated, and where we have been developing community activity for the past five years. We aim to record varied memories from older people, making them readily accessible in multiple ways. We will develop a series of educational activities alongside them, for local museums, churches, schools, youth groups and families to use, remembering the rich cultural history of their area. It also means that as the oldest generation dies out, their memories are logged for prosperity. Importantly, we will add value to past skills, celebrate them, and make them relevant to current lives, to break down barriers between older and younger generations. We have piloted this project as Coastal Connections, project NM-21-00860, supported by NLHF.
