#COED6 Old Chapel Co-operative Woodland

Our aim is to enable long-term, focused, management of a woodland owned and managed by a community co-operative. Writing a UKFS management plan will provide the focus. Upskilling our members in management and monitoring techniques will enable excellent management into the future and make us fit to join the National Forest network. The site will provide a functional link between two existing blocks of ancient woodland, one a SSSI, supporting species such as Dormouse and Redstart, across the landscape in a continuous strip of 3km. Specialist surveys for more difficult taxa (e.g. lichens) will inform our management. The project will allow the woodland, which sits right next to a public footpath, to be opened up to the public as a space for enjoyment and learning. The co-operative land is used by several local groups (Scouts, Explorers, etc.) who would benefit from the knowledge, training, and facilities the project will provide.
