#COED6 Seeds of Hope: Restoring and Diversifying Penpont’s Treescape

Through this project, we will restore, expand, and strengthen the resilience of Penpont’s historic treescape through community action. In doing so, we will educate young people in sustainable woodland management and open Penpont’s woodlands to new communities for generations to come. Funding will resource Penpont’s Community Tree Nursery and Woodland Education Programme; enable native tree planting, trail creation, ecological surveys, and small-scale equipment such as charcoal kilns. In line with the National Forest for Wales’ goals, our work will enhance Penpont’s ancient woodlands, establish new planting areas, and improve connectivity between habitats. Local young people and neighbouring communities will be engaged through Community Action Days and residential educational visits, building knowledge and connection with nature. Guided by UKFS standards, the project will prioritise climate resilience, habitat connectivity, and natural processes, ensuring long-term ecological and community benefits while creating new opportunities for woodland access, enjoyment, and stewardship.
