Community Champions and the Post WW2 Consensus

We aim to safeguard at-risk heritage, strengthen intergenerational connection, develop young people’s skills, and create a lasting community legacy across Northumberland and Newcastle. We will protect the social heritage of post WW2 Britain by recording 80 oral histories from people growing up in post-war Britain. Create a 45 minute documentary and a short fictional film based on the heritage gathered. These lived experiences of community life, are at risk of being lost as this generation ages. We will connect communities to this heritage through intergenerational creative work, community screenings, and accessible digital resources, helping people understand shared local history and identity. Young people will lead research, interviewing and filmmaking, developing heritage, creative and employability skills while strengthening their sense of belonging. The project will leave a sustainable legacy through a public digital archive, educational resources that remain accessible beyond the life of the project for communities.
