Nature And Landscape
Our vision is for Whitehawk’s Hills to become a vibrant, inclusive heritage and nature site, cared for and celebrated by its local community. Whitehawk Hill & Encampment is one of Britain’s earliest Neolithic monuments, a place where communities came together to share stories and make bonds. Its cultural and natural heritage are deeply connected - with Neolithic farming creating the chalk grassland which supports one of Britain’s richest biodiversity. The encampment is 1,000 years older than Stonehenge, yet under-visited, under-celebrated and poorly understood. Placing local people at the heart of design and delivery, this project will reconnect East Brighton residents with their heritage through inclusive guided walks, new trails, heritage crafts, community activities, AR interpretation and volunteering. Together, the Trust for Developing Communities and six grassroots community organisations, will leave a legacy of pride, participation and sustainable, community-led stewardship of this unique Scheduled Monument and Local Nature Reserve.
