Contested Desires: Constructive Dialogues

Contested Desires: Constructive Dialogues (CDCD) is an international project exploring the impact of European colonial legacies across different locations and communities. It brings together visual artists, museums, heritage experts and cultural organisations, working closely with diverse communities. CDCD aims to develop impactful, ethical and inclusive heritage work across borders, forefronting marginalised voices and experiences through the co-production of heritage narratives. The impact of the colonial past is complex and nuanced, affecting people and places across the globe in disproportionate and devastating ways. Constructive and compassionate dialogues making space to acknowledge and consider uncomfortable truths can be vital in fostering agency and collaboration for a better future. D6 leads on CDCD in the UK, a new 18-month innovative project centred on the co-production of decolonial heritage practices and skills development with partners and communities across Tyne and Wear. An Ethics Framework, shared learning and sector recommendations will offer a significant legacy.
