Culture And Memory
We have run two crafts Workshops and talked with members of BACA and ACEA regarding creating a large artwork, using the items that we make during the sessions. This artwork will be called 'Home' and is a beautiful ornate printed pattern, based on the carpet on the floor of The Front Room, which is an installation which re-creates a typical front room from a home in 1976. Curated by Dr. Michael McMillan, the 1970s Front Room explores the migrant experience of African-Caribbean families setting up home in the UK during the 1950s and 60s. This new artwork will include the creative skills that we teach during a Workshop: including beading, decoupage, embroidery and cross stitch. It would be displayed in a public space such as The Museum of the Home, along with the recordings we take during the sessions. It is 126cm wide and 200cm in height.
