Croi na Carraige Heritage Interpretation

Our project aims to create a profound and lasting impact by establishing the Croí na Carraige multi-purpose community building as a central hub for the local community, our young people and visitors from beyond that curates and showcases the remarkable history of the Upper Springfield. This initiative is driven by a vision to preserve and disseminate this rich tapestry of unique and authentic local history while fostering a deeper connection both within the community and further afield. Through the excavation of content and curation of a remarkable history, the new facility will chart the history of the area over the past 60 years and showcase a contemporary story of grassroots community revival and renewal that was both symbolic of and synonymous with the harrowing journey from a time of conflict to one of peace. Central to our objectives for the new facility is the education and engagement of both the local community, our corporate target market of local people and visitors from beyond. In designing the framework for our new facility, we have allocated specific spaces therein for the curation and display of the interpretive features, these include a heritage themed café, a 'long gallery' display space and scope for bleeding the interpretive elements throughout the building to allow all our young people and visitors to be exposed to and be immersed in the rich community history of the Upper Springfield. We have secured planning permission for the architectural designs that form the basis of the capital build with and over £1m secured to date for that purpose, the addition of the heritage displays as described above is crucial along with a structured activity programme, a project co-ordinator and outreach officer in ensuring that the rich history and cultural capital of the Upper Springfield has a permanent display space for the community and visitors to engage with, learn from and be inspired by.
