Cromford Mills - Celebrating Heritage, creating a sustainable future
Our project will transform Grade 1 Cromford Mills Buildings 1, 7, and 8-10, removing them from the National Heritage at Risk Register. These repurposed spaces will conserve their heritage, enhance public access, and secure Cromford Mills’ place as a key Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site destination.
This transformation strengthens the Arkwright Society’s long-term sustainability by diversifying income streams, ensuring we remain custodians of this heritage site. By embedding environmental sustainability through renewable waterpower, carbon reduction, and conservation-led reuse, we will deliver educational programmes on heritage sustainability and climate change.
Through strategic partnerships, we will provide training in heritage and tourism, boosting skills and inclusion. This project secures Cromford Mills’ legacy while expanding accessibility and creating new ways for people to engage with its heritage. By making the site a sustainable community asset for learning and development, we ensure its continued relevance at the heart of our charity’s educational mission.
