This project would raise awareness and deepen a sense of local connection to recently discovered Anglo-Saxon history in the village of Winfarthing in South Norfolk. In 2014 the grave of a high-status Anglo-Saxon woman was found, which contained high quality jewellery and other remarkably preserved clues about the kind of life she had led. Further investigation revealed a wider contemporary graveyard. There was no known Anglo-Saxon settlement here, and the archaeology was very nearly lost to the plough. Now it has been rediscovered, the local community is keen to understand more about this Anglo-Saxon past. This project would provide opportunities for people in rural communities to discover local heritage, develop new skills, and strengthen communities. This would be achieved through a series of activities each tailored to different audiences.
