Culture And Memory
New Horizon Sunderland's Cultural Heritage Preservation and Promotion project aims to celebrate, preserve, and share the rich cultural heritage of BME communities in Sunderland. We seek to empower these communities through: Community Archiving: Collecting and preserving stories, memories, and artifacts through workshops and a digital platform, ensuring that their heritage is documented and accessible to future generations. Education and Awareness: Raising awareness of the significant contributions of BME individuals to the history and culture of Sunderland. Dialogue and Connection: Fostering conversations about identity, belonging, and cultural heritage through events and discussions, promoting understanding and connection among diverse communities. Celebration and Empowerment: Showcasing the vibrancy and diversity of Black and Minoritised cultures through exhibitions, performances, and festivals, fostering a sense of pride and belonging within these communities. Ultimately, we strive to create a more inclusive and equitable society where the cultural heritage of all communities is recognised, valued, and celebrated.
