Culture And Memory

Cultural Impact Award - Light and Flight

Light & Flight is a year-long programme of artistic and heritage projects inviting our communities and residents to capture and celebrate the uniqueness of Barnet. It draws on the borough’s links to early aviation and film, making it a place where innovation and heritage intertwine to create a vibrant community of pioneers. The ‘light & flight’ themes will be interpreted literally and metaphorically throughout the programme, engaging diverse audiences in building a more inclusive narrative of Barnet’s places, people, and communities – both past and present. Our five projects will engage over 2,000 residents, culminating in the Light & Flight Festival with over 4,000 attendees, celebrating our past and present, and preserving our heritage for future generations. The momentum generated will serve as the foundation for a Heritage Strategy to be co-created with our communities following on from the Light & Flight year.
