Culture And Memory
‘Dancing Threads’ will revitalise Greater Manchester’s diverse intangible heritage by safeguarding traditional dance and textile practices rooted in Morris, South Asian, and Carnival/processional cultures. Empowered Communities will learn about, intimately connect with, and record their stories, explore and reclaim overlooked traditions, and deliver new creative work based on their heritage. This intergenerational, co-created programme will explore this heritage through performance, workshops, oral history, and international exchange. Embedding these living traditions into civic celebration. By working with underrepresented groups, we will ensure visibility and ownership of heritage that is often marginalised or missing from mainstream histories. We will develop inclusive leadership pathways and build our capacity to deliver future heritage projects through reflective evaluation and sector sharing. Our legacy will be a network of skilled community heritage custodians, newly created and reanimated heritage artefacts, and an inclusive approach to safeguarding traditions that champions environmental awareness, intergenerational learning, and cultural resilience.
