Deaf Gals go back in time across Derby/shire and Nottingham/shire

'Deaf Gals go back in time' is a 24-month pilot project to enable Ddeaf, Ddeafblind and hard-of-hearing women to learn/experience more about the history of heritage sites/trails across Derby/shire&Nottingham/shire. This includes envisaging what life was like throughout history for deaf & deafblind women. We will encourage heritage providers to work with us to put on workshops/activities. We will work with 12 Heritage partners to organise 6 historic site visits and trails a year, enabling Ddeaf/Ddeafblind women to fully access and immerse themselves in their historical surroundings. They currently are unable to do this due to needing a wide range of communication support and also trained one-to-one volunteer-guides who can provide descriptive information and also ensure that they can experience/learn in a safe environment. Deaf/Ddeafblind/hard-of-hearing women will also need to be supported by communication support workers (live captioners in large print, BSL/SSE interpreters, hands-on BSL/Block/deafblind manual interpreters, lipspeakers), and communication equipment.
