Deaf Heritage Sorted

We will undertake preparatory work, with all parts of the Deaf community, for development of an accessible, Deaf-friendly website centred on British Sign Language (BSL). This digital platform will serve as a lasting home for materials that tell the story of the UK’s Deaf BSL community. A BDA Heritage Strategy will frame our work and guide future heritage activities. Two key roles will support delivery: Digital Archive Specialist to identify archives for digitisation, develop plans for storing non-paper materials, digitisation, and asset management, and collaborate with London Archives and the BDA Deaf Museum in Manchester. Project Coordinator to lead community consultation, form a Deaf BSL-user steering group and lead on outreach activities, manage collaboration with a website designer, strengthen partnerships, plan BSL video content, produce a delivery plan, and refine our Theory of Change. This Deaf-led, inclusive project will ensure long-term excellence, accessibility, and safe preservation of culturally vital materials.
