Culture And Memory
This project is focused on sharing the brass band story and engaging young people with brass band heritage and the wider social and family histories contained within the popular and growing collection of the Brass Bands Archive (BBA). Throughout this project we will collect oral histories with a particular focus on communities who are under-represented, preserve brass band ephemera that would have been lost otherwise, create opportunities for children to engage with local heritage, and help young people develop skills through paid internships, underpinning the future of this important national collection and inspiring a new and more diverse generation of brass band players and audiences. 2028 will see the 60th anniversary of Brass Bands England (BBE), presenting an exciting opportunity to improve access to this internationally significant archive and put in place activities to drive the sector forward over the following decades.
