Dorothy Heathcote: Living History Project

This will be an “Living History” project, inspired by Dorothy Heathcote's work in history and heritage, using it as a starting point for new heritage projects for young people. Dorothy was recognised internationally for her work in using drama as a learning medium, in schools and other fields. The project will be led by a Steering Committee of 5 young people. There will be a team of volunteers, who will devise and lead their own heritage projects, based on local heritage sites, and involving 110+ participants, aged 8-14. Our heritage partner is the Black Country Living Museum. Our aims are to: raise awareness of Dorothy's work, and preserve it through Oral History interviews, archive research, etc.; explore and develop its value and applications in educational and heritage contexts today; engage young people in heritage; and create models of ways of working that engage people and change attitudes to heritage.
