Empowerment Skills for Success (ESS)

MountMove CIC wants to reconnect Sheffield’s younger generation with their roots while equipping them with skills for the future. Too many young people in the city feel disconnected from its proud industrial and working-class heritage, while also facing barriers to employment. ESS will tackle both issues together. Over 12 weeks, 30–60 young adults aged 18–30 will take part in workshops that blend employability and digital skills with local heritage exploration. They will develop confidence in communication, negotiation, teamwork and digital tools, while recording and sharing oral histories from older Sheffield residents. These stories – covering the steel industry, migration, resilience and community life – will be turned into podcasts, blogs and videos, shared online and preserved in Sheffield Archives. By the end, participants will have new skills, stronger pride in their city and an understanding of how their community’s past connects to their own future.
