Culture And Memory

Enfield African Heritage Food

The Enfield African Heritage Food (EAHF) Project aims to highlight African culinary traditions, which have often been overlooked in UK heritage records. It focuses on protecting traditional African dishes recognised by UNESCO, including Thieboudienne, Nsima, Attiéké, and Couscous. EAHF collects and shares family stories and personal experiences about food, culture, and identity. This is done through a lively cookbook, YouTube videos, recorded interviews, and a community exhibition and festival, making this rich heritage accessible to all. By supporting Enfield’s African communities in recording their food traditions, EAHF helps to weave these cultures into the UK’s wider heritage, encouraging appreciation across generations. The project benefits communities by: -Preserving cultural heritage – Recording and celebrating important food traditions for future generations. -Giving a voice to underrepresented communities – Providing a platform for people to share their unique experiences. -Enriching local history – Helping to create a more inclusive and diverse historical record.
