Farm to Fabric

The Farm to Fabric project aims to reconnect people with the rich heritage of wool-based crafts, focusing on the utilisation of local sheep fleece at Glenside Farm. The project seeks to support economic sustainability in sheep farming communities and foster a renewed appreciation for traditional textile traditions among participants and the broader community. It will address the economic challenges faced by sheep farmers due to diminishing demand for raw sheep fleeces, by creating opportunities for sustainable utilisation of wool through craft activities. The project will engage with participants through 13 workshops that take the fleece from the farm to fabric, reconnecting them with heritage wool-based crafts. The project will foster a sense of community and shared cultural identity as participants have the opportunities to learn and develop skills in textile and fibre-based traditions. The project will provide a model for a more sustainable approach to sheep farming and textile production.
