Culture And Memory
Use 60th Anniversary of Kingston School of Art’s prestigious and remarkable victory in the Youth Fashion Design Competition in St Gall, Switzerland as a hook to tell the astonishing story of Kingston’s impact on fashion locally, nationally and internationally and ensure it is recognised and celebrated. Using exhibitions, events, public art, publications, gardens and more to engage with varied communities and put the spotlight on the little-known role Kingston has played in the Swinging 60’s right up to the modern day. The project has a wide range of partners including Kingston University, Kingston Council, Kingston College, Kingston Chamber of Commerce, local businesses and community volunteers. It will work with Kingston’s diverse communities to ensure their ‘voice’ is seen and reflected in the fashion story. Working with young representatives of the LGBTQIA+ to support them to develop their own interpretation and presentation as we celebrate Kingston’s design and industrial heritage.
