Culture And Memory
Our 8-month-long project seeks to uncover and celebrate the often-overlooked contributions of women in the North East of England to the women’s liberation movement through the 1960s to '90s. Through extensive research and community engagement, we aim to shed light on the lives and legacies of these hidden figures. To effectively research and uncover hidden women, we propose a multifaceted approach that harnesses the power of community engagement, collaboration with local history groups, and strategic use of social media campaigns. Once the 10 hidden women have been identified, we will embark on a creative endeavour to commemorate their legacies and amplify their voices through a multi-faceted approach. Each of the 10 women will be honoured with a dedicated display board showcasing their life, achievements, and contributions. We will dedicate a woman to 10 different community centres to host zine-making workshops and present all findings and creative output online.
