We want to turn our position of organisational vulnerability, at risk from closure with subsequent loss of unique collections, into a sound basis for long-term sustainability. The project will (1) Produce a Master Plan for the Hovercraft Museum that reflects the changing site on which it is located: addressing security, access and external space needs. (2) Obtain a realistically costed and sustainable long-term lease that is based on specialist assessments of the conservation, maintenance and space needs of the museum buildings and the collections. (3) Deliver the foundations for future development through a Governance Review, Audience Research, Business Plan and Fundraising Strategy. The legacy of the project will be (1) Retention of the Museum on the historically relevant HMS Daedalus site (2) Security of the collections, by removing the current risk of closure and disposal of the collections. (3) A plan for re-development, to improve public engagement and collections care.
