Nature And Landscape
On the hill, 1/4 mile from our main organisational site is an 1850’s Walled Kitchen Garden, formerly part of a Grade II listed estate, that has been neglected since the 1960’s. We want to use this unusual and unique setting to showcase heritage learning experiences and help to reconnect local people to the heritage of the Walled Garden, traditional skills/crafts, and the land. Within this new ‘Community Garden’ space we will welcome over 200 people a year engaging in activities ranging from the practical (heritage masonry), horticultural (growing traditional food from seed, from land to plate), learning local heritage skills and crafts (candle making, willow weaving etc), and investigating/sharing the stories and history of the Walled Garden. We will preserve the natural & built heritage of the Garden to create a place where the past meets the present, and we can help create a more heritage and environmentally conscious future.
