George’s Diary – Children's life during WW2 through children’s eyes

8 May 2025 marks the 80th anniversary of VE Day - a significant milestone and opportunity to introduce children (core target age 8 to 13) to childhood life during WW2, exploring what their communities looked, sounded and smelled like… through the voices and eyes of children. Working with heritage museums across the UK, we will create a series of 12 audio drama programmes for broadcast and animated versions for online to help contextualise the heritage, linking with objects that children can see at the museums. We will also record oral histories from those who were children during the war for special ‘WW2 Diary Podcasts’. Our project will help families explore heritage on their doorstep and further afield, helping support local heritage museums. We will also encourage children to create their own diaries and record today’s heritage to help children in 80 years’ time learn about life in the 2020s.
