Nature And Landscape
Getting to Know Your Greenspace
Underpinned by our value ‘The Forest is for everyone’ and our aim to make natural greenspace accessible for all, Getting to Know Your Greenspace will enable socially disadvantaged people within the National Forest towns of Burton, Swadlincote and Coalville to access local greenspaces for recreation, exercise and the opportunity to connect with each other and nature, aiming to improve wellbeing, and protect natural heritage. Working with priority communities and targeted audiences, we will identify barriers to engagement and co-design activities in response to need, which build confidence, skills and community cohesion. Working with voluntary and public sector organisations, we will help people to recognise the value of their local greenspaces, encouraging a shift from non-participation to engagement through choice. By exploring cultural influences and connections between communities and the Forest and bringing people together in this way, we hope they will forge positive connections with the Forest beyond this project.
