Glasgow Wild Spaces

Butterfly Conservation will link selected schools, specific community groups and local residents (living within the top 20% areas of multiple deprivation in Scotland) more deeply to Glasgow’s urban parks and environment by engaging them with Wild Space creation, management, training and events. Participation of school children and young people (16-35 years of age) will be a particular focus of the project, with activities aiming to encourage ‘intergenerational’ connections, from which both younger and older people will benefit. New habitat opportunities for butterflies and moths - providing space to feed, breed and shelter - will help benefit species in the most populous city in Scotland. Significantly, effort will contribute to the delivery of Butterfly Conservation’s ‘Saving Butterflies and Moths: Our 2021-2026 Strategy’, the ‘Glasgow Local Biodiversity Action Plan 2024-29’, ‘Glasgow Pollinator Plan 2017-2027’, ‘Glasgow Open Space Strategy (February 2020)’ and ‘Glasgow Climate Adaptation Plan 2022-2030’.
