Global Voyages: Reimagining heritage with local communities

This project will transform how people connect with the global heritage of the SS Great Britain by offering ownership, representation and agency in the storytelling of its history and heritage to Bristol communities. It seeks to achieve: Ownership of storytelling by opening the archive to community researchers to explore the history of the ship; ownership of place by providing dedicated on-site space for community members; and ownership of decision making by embedding a community Advisory Group in organisation-wide planning We hope to achieve greater representation in the Trust’s storytelling by giving access to research, space and creative input to Bristol communities that are heavily underrepresented in the heritage sector, and by representing their input sitewide. The project will centre community-led, participatory work at the heart of the Trust’s storytelling, planning, development and decision making, transforming its culture, relevance, and the heritage it represents.
