Goods to Parkend: Conserving Parkend’s Remarkable Wooden Goods Shed and making it accessible to all

‘Goods to Parkend’ will conserve, interpret and make accessible southern England’s only remaining substantial wooden Goods Shed, situated at the northerly-most station on the Dean Forest Railway. We will bring new life to an exceptional example of a vanished form of wooden railway architecture. Parkend Goods Shed contains many original features from its 1871 construction and 1897 repositioning. Our Goods Shed will interpret the remarkable history of Parkend for people travelling on our line, community partners and our many museum and railway volunteers. Today a Forest village, Parkend was once a hive of industry; home to quarries, iron foundry, forestry, ore extraction, Collieries, tinplate manufacturing, stone works and timber extraction. Our Goods Shed was Parkend’s ‘doorway to the wider world’. It was the hub through which local raw materials were ‘exported’ by rail and the River Severn through which goods, ideas and news were ‘imported’.
