Culture And Memory
Five ASide Theatre will deliver specialist heritage training led by Jan Blake and Alex Oma-Pius (IROKO Theatre), experts in African and Caribbean storytelling. This training will equip our lead artist with skills in folklore traditions, ethical storytelling, and workshop facilitation. The lead artist will co-design culturally relevant training on folklore and personal heritage narratives with elders, engaging 25+ participants and recording their stories. This will address a critical gap in Black British heritage training. The project will archive 10+ folklore stories for public access and produce practical tools and ethical guidelines for ongoing use. This initiative strengthens our organisation’s capacity to preserve and share Black British intangible heritage, laying the foundation for the Ground Provisions platform—a sustainable, community-led storytelling initiative. Through professional mentorship, community collaboration, and a digital-first approach, the project enhances organisational capability and promotes cultural representation in the heritage sector.
