Gwâl Afanc – The Beaver Lodge

We aim to build ‘The Beaver Lodge’, a flagship 50m² wildlife engagement and learning facility at Cors Dyfi. By installing one-way glass along one side, we will provide unprecedented, non-intrusive access to these 'ecosystem engineers.' Our goal is to reconnect the public with a lost chapter of Welsh natural heritage. Using state-of-the-art 4K cameras, live audio, people and volunteer engagement, and interactive touchscreens, we will bridge knowledge gaps regarding beaver ecology and their vital role in wetland and biodiversity creation. We will tell the powerful story of the species in Wales—from its 16th-century extinction to its 21st-century semi-natural recolonisation. Collaborating with local artists for bespoke interpretation and artwork, the project will foster a positive, long-lasting relationship between the community and this once-ubiquitous species. We will seek to inspire a new generation of conservationists by providing a world-class, immersive bilingual learning experience centred on Welsh biodiversity and heritage.
