Hear Us Now: Voices of Mencap

Hear Us Now: Voices of Mencap will capture and preserve the stories, past and present, of children with a learning disability and their families who have attended the Mencap Nursery since it first opened in 1969. As Mencap NI celebrates its 60th anniversary in 2025, our goal is to create a lasting, accessible archive of lived experiences that reflect the progress, challenges and achievements of people with a learning disability across generations. We want to ensure these important voices are heard, valued and shared before they are lost. Through this project, we aim to build understanding, promote inclusion, and strengthen cultural recognition of the learning disability community in Northern Ireland. The legacy will be an inspiring and educational resource for families, educators, researchers and the wider public, celebrating resilience and driving continued progress in equality and representation.
