Nature And Landscape
Hereford ~ River City: restoring our waterways and reconnecting communities to their rivers
We want to establish Hereford as a ‘river city’; where nature thrives within the network of waterways and surrounding wetland areas which are enjoyed by all. We’ll restore the waterways and wetland areas for wildlife, interpret and celebrate their history, and improve access to them and the green spaces they connect to. We’ll improve habitat in and alongside three brooks running through the city and on floodplain meadows; all connecting to the River Wye and River Lugg SSSIs/SACs. Waterways will be cleaner, connected and teeming with life. Wetland areas will be created or restored. Priority species will increase in diversity and abundance. Volunteers will learn wildlife monitoring skills and undertake practical nature conservation. We’ll help under-served communities support their wellbeing through nature connection. People of all ages will engage with the waterways by participating in arts, play and history. They’ll enjoy better access to nature spots and new walking routes.
