Industrial And Transport
We aim to retain, inspire and further develop skills in our existing volunteer workforce and recruit new volunteers to help ensure the preservation and development of heritage engineering skills within the sector. We will use restoration work on a 1918 built steam locomotive as a learning platform to train and develop volunteers, helping build resilience for the sector by extending the boundaries of volunteer-led work areas. We will raise public awareness and appreciation of the skills involved in the restoration, maintenance and ultimately operation of historic machinery, highlighting the project by staging exhibitions of the work in progress - showcasing during public events at our host heritage railway with a potential audience during the project of at least 10,000. We will promote the project on our website and provide bespoke events for children and young adults to attract and inspire volunteers from future generations.
