Culture And Memory

Heritage of Hope (HofH)

For Live Cancer Free's (LCF) 10 year anniversary, we will research and produce a 30-45 minute documentary film that highlights how the cultural heritage of those living with cancer affects their experience and healthcare outcomes, and Leicester's history as a nexus of cancer research. 'Heritage of Hope' (HofH) - Key topics: 1) Heritage aspect: Cultural reactions, stigmas, coping mechanisms across diverse communities, intergenerational change, and Leicester's contributions to cancer prevention/research. 2) Informative aspect: highlight importance of early detection, culturally sensitive care and survivorship. 3) Emotional aspect: stories of hope from patients/survivors/families. Delivery will involve LCF, freelancers, 20 volunteers (aged 18+) and several partners (inc. East Midlands Oral History Archive). We will record interviews with cancer patients: inviting them to share stories, memories and how their heritage interacts with their diagnosis. Interviews will be edited into an impactful narrative with research/narration that contextualises them. Legacy: raised profile for underrepresented history.
