Herschels in Slough

Our project will transcribe and record 4 “lost” or “undiscovered” musical works by William Herschel. The Dionysus Ensemble have permission to produce the first ever recordings of Herschel’s forgotten music, after creating printed sheet music transcribed from Herschel’s original handwritten manuscript. These will be permanent & up to date resources freely available online. Over 4 years, TDE will use these newly discovered Herschel works as the basis for schools workshops. TDE will go into our 2 affiliated Slough schools and through interactive music workshops, enable children to not only engage with this important historical figure & thus local Slough history, but also to compose, create & perform their own new Herschel inspired music. Different groups of children will participate annually, therefore different audiences of parents, families and friends will encounter his music and the planets & stars from his astronomical work through their children’s enthusiasm and growing knowledge.
