Culture And Memory
We plan to deliver a heritage access and inclusion project designed to connect people in Old Goole with their heritage and the Goole 200 celebrations as Goole Town celebrates in 2026. Old Goole is isolated from the greater town by the river and docks, carrying its own unique identity and heritage. We will work with Old Goole residents including young people, older people, families, refugees, dock workers and migrant communities using oral history, object handling and research, to connect generations, interpret and document the social, cultural and industrial heritage of Old Goole, from early Viking settlements, though the diversion of the river in the 1600’s to the development of the port. We will work with residents to document and creatively interpret the research, sharing and making it accessible as a heritage parade for the residents of Old Goole, and digitally through websites and social media pages for a wider audience.
