HMS Unicorn - celebrating 200 years; building resilience for 200 more!
A programme of Bicentenary celebrations will launch a major campaign to support future work which will secure HMS Unicorn for her next 200 years in Dundee. Public outreach and engagement (in local communities and beyond) will support integrated awareness-raising and fundraising activity, helping UPS build resilience and secure full funding towards Phase 1(a) works within our wider Project Safe Haven (PSH) MasterPlan. We will also enact key prerequisite technical activity to ensure PSH’s timely success, namely: - Update the Ship’s Conservation Management Plan; - Commission an Options Appraisal for the drying-out of her timbers; - Progress lease arrangements for the East Graving Dock which will berth Unicorn from 2028. All are necessary prior to scheduled detailed development and design work from Apr’25. Parallel investment (separately resourced to Mar’25) across essential organisational capacity-building and specific emergency works to the Ship will ensure solid foundations for preservation activity immediately thereafter.
