Culture And Memory
The UK South Asian Digital Archive aims to preserve and celebrate the heritage of South Asian communities in the UK. Through the Home, Identity and Belonging project, we seek to collect and share personal narratives, oral histories, and artefacts that highlight the experiences of British South Asians. The project will deliver a programme of engagement activities (workshops, family events, document/photo scanning and story recording days) across Leicester and Leicestershire. By engaging directly with communities across this region, we will create a comprehensive digital archive and a temporary exhibition at Leicester Museum and Art Gallery, alongside a travelling exhibition that fosters understanding and appreciation of this integral part of British history. The legacy of our project will be a permanent, accessible repository of stories and materials that educates and inspires future generations, ensuring that the contributions and experiences of British South Asians are recognised and valued within the broader national narrative.
