Culture And Memory
GLADD is The Association of LGBTQ+ Doctors and Dentists, a voluntary community organisation evolved from the Gay Medical Association founded in 1975. This project will preserve and share the crucial but endangered heritage of LGBTQ+ medical professionals who transformed healthcare for our community over five decades. Many founding members have passed away and remaining memories and personal archives risk being lost forever. Through our formal Partnership Agreement with Aunt Nell, we will collect diverse oral histories, including voices of women, people of colour and trans medics who were often marginalised. This project cannot happen without Aunt Nell's professional expertise, creative vision, and proven track record in LGBTQ+ heritage. The project will create sustainable heritage capacity by developing a dedicated Heritage Officer, training volunteers, & establishing long-term preservation at GLADD. Our impact will inform today's critical LGBTQ+ healthcare developments & provide historical context for ongoing medical debates.
