Belfast Historic Waterfront will transform the River Lagan into a place that celebrates our maritime story and strengthens the social, economic and environmental life of Belfast. It will protect Belfast’s Maritime Heritage and create new opportunities to engage with communities, visitors and future generations. We will appoint three Heritage Engagement Officers who will work closely with waterfront neighbourhoods. They will build trust, support partnerships and help develop the skills needed to shape the future of the waterfront. A Waterfront Community Heritage Forum will ensure community voices guide decisions and influence priorities. Working with anchor institutions, we will audit built, social and natural heritage to identify investment priorities and ensure maximum impact. Our restoration programme will protect irreplaceable maritime heritage, including three steam cranes, the Caisson Gate and the oral histories of workers and communities. Our ambition is to create a world class waterfront that is welcoming and accessible to everyone.
