Culture And Memory
Leicester's heritage landscape is distinctive and diverse, reflecting the City’s vibrant history and its status as the first ‘majority minority’ city in the UK. Our heritage is a mix of tangible landmarks, hidden gems, intangible local traditions and neighbourhood stories. However, connections between heritage sites, places, activities and all our communities aren’t necessarily visible and this rich mix isn’t accessible to all. Our vision is heritage which all people own and cherish, strengthening shared identity, belonging and pride of place. The Inclusive Heritage Project will advance this through consultation and co-design, setting the agenda for creative, heritage-based collaboration. It will include opportunities for communities to lead. This will be achieved by developing a network of community heritage advocates, innovative leadership development, exchanging knowledge and skills and securing investment. The key output will be compelling heritage proposals, co-created with city communities that can be developed via the Place programme.
