Hull’s Hidden Heroes

Hull is often portrayed as a struggling city with no great future and this negativity is keenly felt by local people. Through this project, residents will learn about positive and impactful people and places related to Hull. In doing so, they will develop pride in the city, understand its history and learn what people from Hull have contributed to the world. To ensure engagement and make the project interesting and relatable, we will focus on social heritage. By challenging negative stereotypes, we hope to raise aspirations, shape community identity and increase optimism for the future. This project will be aimed at people who lack the confidence and skills to engage with history and heritage. Through this work residents will develop transferable skills, improve their social networks and access new opportunities. Our aim is to broaden the horizons of those who are least likely to meaningfully engage with existing heritage projects.
