IOU at 50 - Building the North’s Hidden Super City

IOU, a pioneering force in experimental, site-specific art, aims to conserve its 50-year legacy by capturing and bringing to life rare props, images, unseen films, and personal accounts from artists, sector leaders, audiences, and communities across the UK influenced by its work. The project will place IOU’s legacy within the broader historical context of social and technological change in Calderdale and beyond. This work is integral to our Creation Centre vision, providing communities with opportunities to engage with arts heritage, develop skills and creativity. As part of this, our long-term home at Dean Clough Mills requires enhanced archive facilities, including improved storage and digitisation solutions, ensuring accessibility. Approaching our 50th anniversary in 2026, we will continue bridging art, engineering, technology, and the natural environment through heritage initiatives that inspire artistic and community responses. This investment will expand access to both physical and non-physical heritage, ensuring its relevance for future generations.
