Langley Park Miners’ Banner Campaign

The Langley Park Miners’ Banner Campaign seeks to engage the community in commemorating the village’s mining and trade union history by replacing our miners’ banner that has been too dilapidated to display since 2002. Colliery villages in County Durham and beyond, parade banners at the Durham Miners’ Gala, representing the history of their communities. Langley Park has not been able to participate for over twenty years. 31 October 2025 is the 50th anniversary of the closure of the colliery. We aim to parade the new banner through the village during the anniversary year and take it to the Miners’ Gala in July 2026. At community meetings we have seen ex-miners and their descendants in tears, proud of their heritage and proud that their village still cares about it. We want to keep their history alive and ensure it is remembered in the village by future generations.
