#LC Landscape Connections: Jewels of the Dales

Our project will revitalise the wildflower-rich landscapes of the Yorkshire Dales by supporting “sweet spot” farming — where profitable agriculture works with nature. Additionally, we’ll deliver targeted conservation works to restore some of the Dales’ rarest species — altogether, the ‘Jewels of the Dales’. Development work will identify 10–15 clusters of upland farms already demonstrating good practice in nature-friendly farming. These clusters will form the foundation of our approach, complimented by the identification of niche habitat areas which require specialised conservation intervention. We’ll map Landscape Recovery and other environmental initiatives, working with partners to align efforts — creating a more connected, resilient landscape in line with Lawton’s principles of “bigger, better, more joined-up”. Finally, we’ll co-design trial Access and Engagement plans with farmers, developing new ways for people to experience and value this landscape.
