Nature And Landscape
The Mourne Gullion Landscape Connections project unites partners, farmers, landowners & communities across 73,294ha in 2 Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty to address the root causes of an iconic landscape under significant pressure. Escalating challenges across the landscape – devastating wildfires, agricultural & land use pollution, uncoordinated land management & growth of recreational use - are contributing to a deepening environmental crisis. Through a depth & breadth of quality engagement & collaboration, the project will build on the knowledge and skills among those who live, work and visit this landscape to restore the connection between people and place. It will catalyse the societal, community and individual shifts needed to drive systemic change and support the landscape’s recovery and climate resilience. Modelling best practice, the project will help restore habitats, demonstrate a pathway for sustainable landscape management, enhance accessibility and restore meaningful connections to the rich and diverse natural and cultural heritage.
