#LC Nature Ridge Landscape Connections

Nature Ridge provides a transformational and strategic opportunity addressing nature recovery, climate adaptation, cultural heritage, access/public understanding, health/well-being and social inclusion across the North Wessex Downs National Landscape (NWDNL) and Chilterns National Landscape (CNL), with the Ridgeway National Trail (RNT) ‘Britain’s oldest road’ being the golden thread linking the two NLs, part of the overarching Great Chalk Way. Focusing on 1,640km2 of chalk geology and contiguous topography running north-easterly from Wiltshire into Bedfordshire, this project addresses the steep decline in calcareous habitats and species in the face of climate change. The (RNT) passes through these distinctive landscapes steeped in important cultural heritage, much at risk or unknown, that needs action. This bid is seeking resources to start scoping this ambitious, complex and integrated vision and to start building an extraordinary partnership for delivery at scale for both nature, heritage and people and ultimately the delivery of a Landscape Connections Project.
